1. Any Texas FFA Chapter or 4-H Club may enter the contest and the number of teams per organization will not be limited. All teams must have a minimum of three (3) members and a maximum of four (4), with teams of four (4) having the lowest score dropped. FFA chapters and 4-H clubs wishing to enter individuals may do so. All team members will be counted as separate individuals to determine "individual high point" awards.
2. The contest will be divided into Junior and Senior divisions based on the grade level of the contestant. Contestants in 9th-12th are considered Seniors, 3rd - 8th are considered Juniors. A Junior contestant may compete on a Senior team but a Senior may not compete on a Junior team. Junior contestants competing on Senior teams will also be competing against Senior individuals for individual contest awards.
3. There will be no cheating allowed. Anyone caught cheating will be removed from the contest immediately and disqualified.
4. Scantron sheets will be used for the placing of each class and will be provided by Calhoun County 4-H. Each contestant will be provided with one scan sheet. Any replacement scantron will cost $1.00. All ovals must be colored in completely and must be dark. Any stray marks or mistakes must be completely erased. DO NOT fold or bend the scantron in any way that may prevent the sheet from being read by the electronic scanner. Contestants are encouraged to bring #2 pencils and a manila folder to protect their scantron from dirt and moisture. All scores will be tabulated by the scantron computer and are final.
5. The Hormel System will be used to score the contest. Scores will be based on placing and question classes only. There will NOT be any Reasons classes. Tiebreaking class(es) will be designated by the officials.
6. Contestants will be allowed 10 minutes per class. A total of 7-8 judging classes which may include a combination of market steers, market lambs, breeding heifers, market hogs and market goats will make up the judging portion of the contest. Additional information concerning handling of the classes and animal soundness will be addressed prior to the contest during the introduction.
7. There will be 1-3 questions classes. Contestants will be informed of the question classes prior to the start of the contest. The questions portion of the contest will be conducted in the stands immediately following the judging portion of the contest.
8. Official placings/reasons will be given following the conclusion of the question portion of the contest. Animals used in the livestock judging contest will stay in the arena at most, one hour after official placings/reasons are given.
9. Results & Awards will be presented as soon as possible at the conclusion of the contest. Please be present. The results as announced will be final.
